Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

StumbleUpon is a social network and internet community where users discover and rate web pages and other media. Users sign up for an account and install a toolbar plugin for the Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer browsers that runs a web application for link sharing. They can then fill out a series of questionnaires about the types of content they generally like, and the StumbleUpon engine will present new content to them based on their stated interests.

A "Stumble" button is installed on a toolbar at the top of the browser window; clicking that button brings up a semi-random website that falls into one of the areas of interest a user designated when signing up. Members can give a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" to indicate whether or not they liked and might recommend that page or media to a friend as well as optionally leave a review of the destination. The aggregate effect of these peer-approved referrals based loosely on topic of interest is a unique approach to web navigation some have dubbed "social content discovery."
