Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Microsoft Hohm is an online application that tracks your home energy usage and recommends courses of action to reduce your energy consumption so you can save on your power bill — and be a more responsible world citizen, presumably.

Hohm uses data provided by the US Department of Energy and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in tandem with your own input to make its determinations. Once it's analyzed the data, it might suggest that you install a programmable thermostat or cover up air leaks. In the future, Microsoft hopes that your energy usage data will be delivered to the system automatically.

Hohm is currently in an invitation-only, free beta test. You can apply for an invitation at the website.
