Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Kazaa used to be a peer-to-peer file sharing desktop application — the successor to Napster as the reigning champion of music piracy. Those days were short, though; lawsuits led to the closure of the Kazaa service. Like Napster, Kazaa is now a website that hosts legal music downloads.

Artists like Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and The Black Eyed Peas all offer up tracks through the new Kazaa. To gain access, you pay a subscription fee of $19.98 per month. As a subscriber you can download all the music you want. The catch is that the music is DRM-protected; while you can register up to three computers to play the files, Kazaa itself says that your tracks won't play on portable media players like the iPod touch.

If that's not a dealbreaker for you (we'll bet that it is), you can sign up for Kazaa today.
