Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Most of Google's great features started out in Google Labs, but we're not sure this one is much more than a gimmick; Google Fast Flip presents news stories from around the web in a visual flip style that reads somewhat like a print magazine or newspaper.

Large thumbnails of stories on participating sites are displayed, and can be narrowed down by topic, popularity, and of course search terms. It's supposed to be so fast you hardly notice a delay when new thumbnails load, but it's not quite there.

Participating web news outlets include The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Salon, Fast Company, ProPublica, Technology Review, FRONTLINE, Newsweek, and others. The site went live via the Google Labs program on September 15th, and of course it's free to use.
