Symbian OS is an operating system owned by Nokia and used for 3G network, mobile devices such as smartphones, the latest version being Symbian 9.5. Symbian is included in devices created by Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson. Symbian 9.5 has over 70 features for smartphones, such as support for NOR, NAND, SD and MMC memory formats, digital TV and FM radio support, and Local Based Services that use phones' GPS support to offer specific services. Users of Symbian can also access multihoming or link layer support and use email capabilities for POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP formats.

While Symbian is not an open source operating system, there have been several open source programs created for Symbian, based on the source code that has been revealed for the operating system. Such programs include Mobile Web Server, Nokia Internet Radio, Python for S60, and Symtorrent.
