Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Skype for iPhone allows iPhone and iPod touch users to use the Skype voice-over-IP and instant messaging service on their mobile devices. As with the desktop version of Skype, phone calls to other Skype users are free, but calling offline numbers costs money, as does receiving calls from those numbers.

Presently you have to be connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot to make calls, but you can chat via instant message anywhere on either the 3G or EDGE networks. People using the early test version of iPhone OS 3.0 have reported that you can make voice calls with the Skype app over 3G or even EDGE (with serious latency issues for the latter) on that version of the iPhone software, but neither Skype nor Apple have confirmed that this feature survives in the final OS 3.0 June release.

As with other iPhone IM apps, you must keep the app open to receive messages. This will likely change in OS 3.0 as well.
