Opera is a web browser available on a broad variety of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It's not as popular as browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari, but it tries to increase its profile but offering a lot of in-browser features normally reserved for other applications.
For example, Opera can download files via the BitTorrent protocol, send e-mails, create contact lists, and chat via the IRC protocol. The newest, "Labs" version of Opera includes Opera Unite, which operates as a file sharing system and a web server.
The latest stable release version of Opera is 9.64, but Opera 10 is right around the corner. The browser is available as a free download for all supported personal computer operating systems.
