Audacity is an open source program designed to help users record and edit audio files for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems. With Audacity, user can record live audio, convert older media forms such as tapes to digital files, edit various sound files including AIFF, WAV, and MP3, splice audio files together, and change various aspects of a file's sound. The latest release of Audacity is version 1.3.6, which is still a beta version without complete support for other languages or full documentation. This new version has added functions including FFmpeg file support, on-demand loading, and a hierarchical plug-in system for grouping plug-ins. For those interested in a more dependable, user-friendly edition of Audacity, version 1.2.6 is also available. Both versions are free and can be downloaded on Audacity's website.
