Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Amazon Kindle for PC allows you to download and read Amazon's Kindle-compatible e-books on your laptop or desktop running Microsoft Windows 7, Windows XP, or Windows Vista.

The software supports Whispersync, which syncs your library with your Kindle or other Kindle store-supporting device. There are 360,000 books to choose from, but Amazon has said that Kindle magazines, blogs, and newspapers aren't yet available for the PC client.

The software became available from Amazon on November 10, 2009, and it's free.
