Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

The Sony Reader PRS-505 is the second device in Sony's E-ink based Portable Reader line. The PRS-505 includes a number of improvements over its older sibling, the PRS-500, including a thinner body, more internal memory and the ability to use higher capacity Memory Stick Pro Duo cards for storing content in addition to standard SD cards (but not SDHC). The E-ink screen also saw a few improvements, including a brighter white state, faster refresh times for quicker page turns and a jump from 4 to 8 level grayscale. The PRS-505 is available in silver, black or red.

Content for the Reader can come from any number of places, including Sony's iTunes-like Connect ebook store, PDFs, blogs, RSS news feeds and the ePub open ebook standard. Unlike the Amazon Kindle, which has a built in EVDO radio for wirelessly delivering content, the Sony Reader has to be synced to a PC over USB (it also charges through USB). In addition, the PRS-505 doesn't have a keyboard so there's no method for annotating book content right on the device. Other features include the ability to playback MP3 files stored in its memory or on a memory card and displaying JPG images on the E-ink screen.
