SanDisk's Sansa e280 is, at 8GB, the highest capacity music player in the e200 line. With its microSD slot, that capacity can be raised another 2GB - no SDHC support for even larger flash cards, though. Internal storage aside, the e200 models, including the e280, share the same feature set. The players natively handle MP3 and Windows-DRM tracks, and the compatible open-source firmware replacement RockBox adds support for FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, and more.

Navigation is primarily through the illuminated scroll wheel, which gently clicks as it's spun, along with track control buttons surrounding it. Although the e280 supports video playback on its 1.8-inch screen, files must be converted to the Quicktime format the Sansa uses beforehand. The built-in FM radio supports recording broadcasts directly to flash memory, but then only at a 32kbps data rate, not suitable for recording music. Audio notes can be kept using the integrated microphone - again saved at 32kbps, but more than suitable for voice.
