Product Details
Originally released on November 19, 2006, the Microsoft Zune was an FM-radio equipped portable media player capable of playing music, video, and displaying pictures.
Available in a variety of sizes and colors, the Zune served as Microsoft's competition for Apple's iPod line of portable media players. Besides the integrated FM-radio, the Zune differentiated itself from portable media players like the iPod by adding interactivity between Zunes via an 802.11b/g wireless connection.
Zune owners who enabled the feature could see other nearby Zunes, view what's "now playing" on the devices, and temporarily share music and pictures with Zune users in approximately a 30 foot range.
On September 2nd, 2009, Microsoft said that the Zune had been discontinued to pave the way for the launch of its successor, the Zune HD.
