Archos' 7 is a portable media player with WiFi and web browser that sports a 7-inch touchscreen and DVR capabilities. The device supports MPEG2 and MPEG4 video, able to play files up to 720p in resolution. Though the 7's 800 x 480 screen isn't capable of displaying such files at full-size, an optional DVR dock, in addition to providing A/V inputs for recording, adds an HDMI output for connection to high definition displays. Unfortunately, though Archos has increased the screen size from the five-inch Archos 5's, the 7 isn't at any higher resolution — simply larger pixels.

The 7's 600MHz ARM processor runs the included Opera web browser, which features Flash support. Network connectivity is over 802.11 b/g, with USB 2.0 available for transferring files to the device's hard drive, available in 160GB and 320GB options. In addition to a wide assortment of natively supported audio formats, Archos offers downloadable plugins to support even more file types, including AAC. Besides web browsing and A/V functions, the 7 will display PDF files and provides wireless email over POP3 and IMAP servers. Although Archos admits that such times will vary, the company claims 10 hours of video playback or nearly 40 hours audio playback on a single charge.
