Apple's iPod nano is a flash memory-based portable media player capable of playing MP3s, photos, and videos. The 4th generation of Apple's iPod nano was announced by Steve Jobs at Apple's Let's Rock Event on September 9, 2008, three years after the introduction of the original iPod nano on September 7, 2005. Available in an 8GB model for $149 and a 16GB model for $199, the iPod nano is the thinnest iPod to date and is available in a variety of colors. The nano also includes an accelerometer that allows the display to automatically switch from portrait to landscape mode when the device is turned on its side and shaking the iPod nano shuffles currently playing songs. The iPod nano supports Apple's Genius playlist feature, which suggests playlists based on similarities between the different songs on the iPod.
