    Obsessable T-shirt

Do you load Obsessable in your browser every day and think: "Why oh why do they never feature the gadget I love the most in the world?!"?

If so, then now is your chance to let us know about it. Shoot a video of your favorite gadget, telling us why you love it and why you think it's the most obsessable gadget out there. Upload it to one of the many online sites that allow embedding of videos, such as YouTube. Then, in the comments below, tell us what your favorite gadget is and include a link to the video. You have to leave the comment from a registered Obsessable user account with a valid email (more details on our user accounts here). If we end up embedding your video on a post on the site, we'll email you and providing you live in the U.S. or Canada, we'll send you an Obsessable T-shirt.

Alternatively, if you have a Twitter account, you can follow us on Twitter @obsessable. We'll follow you back. Once that's done you can send us a DM with the link and if we use your video, we'll DM you back asking for information on where to send the t-shirt. Don't know about Twitter? Make sure you check out our Twitter feature.

If you're a Windows user who enjoyed our review of the NeatDesk scanner and software combination for going entirely paperless with your office, or if you happen to be a Mac user looking for a portable scanner solution and found our NeatReceipts for Mac review of interest, you can now enter for a chance to win each of the devices over at our sibling site Super Eco. In addition to these contests, Super Eco has a helpful feature on how to go paperless that you should definitely check out.

The contests are open to U.S. residents only, you can only enter one time per each contest, and in the unlikely event that the same randomly chosen winner wins both contests, he / she will be asked to choose one and another random drawing will occur for the winner of the other contest. The contests are live now and will run until midnight ET Monday March 3rd, 2009, so head on over to Super Eco now for your chance to win.

We've added a new social bar at the top of the site for all logged in members. If you don't have an Obsessable member account you can sign up for one in the upper right hand corner of the site or if you have an account, but aren't signed in, you can sign in via the link there as well. Besides all the features that we're about to go through that signing up for an account and signing in to the site gets you, it also rids you of the first advertisement at the top of the page site-wide.

  • Obsessable is looking for writers!

Know a lot about tech? Want to share your passion with the world? Join the Obsessable team!

    Digg del.icio.us Facebook StumbleUpon Twitter

    Mobile, Imaging, Home A/V, Computing, Gaming | by Samuel Axon | Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:34PM | 4 comments

Our quest is to make personal technology fun and accessible. We want to help our readers empower themselves with the knowledge they need to find the best tech for their lives and get the most out of the stuff they already have. It's all about doing away with the intimidation and replacing it with enthusiasm.

It's a lofty goal, and we can't do it alone, so we need you! We're bringing on news editors, feature writers, and product page curators to work from home. These are all paid, freelance positions.

Regardless of the role, we're looking for people who can focus on the fun and personal aspect to gadgets, not just the technical details. If you think you can distill this stuff to its easy-to-understand, fun-to-read elements then we want you!

You don't need reams of experience or volumes of bylines, but you must be a reliable and diligent writer with a comprehensive understanding of the world of personal technology, a fun voice, and a talent for weeding out the geekspeak and arcane technical stuff to get to the heart of the matter.

    News Writers

We're looking for a weekend editor responsible for the minute-to-minute content on the site on Saturdays and Sundays, and we're also looking for a couple other part timers to help us stay on top of things all through the week.

To apply, e-mail us apply AT obsessable DOT com with a brief background on your experience in technology and writing for the web, your availability and contact information, and three sample articles in the Obsessable style.

    Curators

We keep a large database of product pages to help our readers make informed buying decisions or just satisfy their curiosity. These pages don't create themselves! We need more people to write descriptions of products, and more still to research gadgets and accurately record all their technical specifications.

To apply, e-mail us apply AT obsessable DOT com with a brief background on your experience in technology and writing for the web, and your availability and contact information. Description writers: include three sample product descriptions in the Obsessable style. Please specify whether you're applying to become a description writer or a specs guru.

    Feature Writers

We're looking for regular feature writers in a number of areas:

    • Mobile, including cell phones and portable media players
    • Digital living room (IPTV, home theater, HTPC, wireless, etc.)
    • Mac computing
    • Windows computing
    • Digital imaging and video
    • Software tips and tricks
    • Hardware tips and tricks
    • Web 2.0 and social media

To apply, send an email to apply AT obsessable DOT com with a brief background on your experience in technology and writing for the web, your availability and contact information, and 10 sample feature topics relating to personal technology (if you’re pitching us a specific regularly running column, those topics should be unified within your chosen theme).

  • HP growing its Mini-Note family with Mini 2150

HP is set to expand its line of netbooks this June with a 3G-packing Mini 2150.

    Mobile | by Tanner Godarzi | Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:48AM | 0 comments

HP first jumped into the netbook market with the much anticipated Mini 2133 which not only appealed to the enterprise crowd but also budget-minded buyers. Eventually expanding the line with an Ubuntu based Mini 1000 and recently announced Mini 2140, HP is taking their family of netbooks even further with an updated Mini 2150 which will sport 3G cellular connectivity, a larger screen, and Intel's newest low power CPU.

Currently, the Mini-Note family uses LED backlit screens ranging from 8.9-inches to 10.1-inches which are normal for netbooks. However, the 2150 would pack an 11.6-inch screen with a second model sporting a 13.3-inch display. The larger screen would expand the netbook's size with the benefit of a higher resolution display. Besides a larger screen, the newest Mini would likely use Intel's newer line of Atom CPU's code-named Menlow. Atom processors branded with the Menlow moniker are similar to their Diamondville and Silverthorne cousins but are capable of reaching clock speeds of 1.86 GHz and are targeted towards ultra-portable computers and internet tablets. Unfortunately, there is no word on pricing for the HP Mini 2150 at this time.

The celebration of the winter solstice is upon us, and the Obsessable staff would like to say "Happy Holidays!" Thanks so much for reading, and enjoy the eating, giving, receiving, singing, socializing, relaxing, eggnog, and inevitable all-day James Bond movie marathon on cable TV. This is Obsessable's first Christmas, and we hope we've been helpful with our buying guides and other holiday features. If you'd like, let us know in the comments how we did, and what you'd like to see next year (or any other time!).

It's been a fascinating season for technology: netbooks seem to be flying off the shelves, video game consoles like the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 are taking over living rooms everywhere, and it's the first year that Blu-ray has vied for your holiday bucks unopposed. Did you give or receive any gadgety gifts this year? Feel free to brag!

  • It's Christmas Eve! What was on your wish list?

It's Christmas Eve here at Obsessable (and quite a few other places too, we suppose!) and we're eagerly looking forward to seeing what's under each of our Christmas trees. For all the MacBooks, Wii Fits, and fancy cell phones we're hoping for, of course the biggest wish is to spend some time with family!

Never let it be said we aren't obsessed, though; we'll still be around today, so keep reading inbetween those present-opening and eggnog-chugging festivities. And we already have a couple things out there to help you make the best of the holiday: a guide to Hulu's best video tips on entertaining during the holidays and some ideas for family activities for the tech-obsessed.

We'd also love it if you'd tell us: what's your holiday wish? World peace, or an ultra-sexy, super-sleek netbook? Both, you say? We'll relay the message to the old man up north, but no promises!
