Well, it didn't take long for Sprint to make a grab for Google's Nexus One, as just days after hearing about Verizon's plans for the new CDMA version of the Android smartphone, Sprint, the nation's other major CDMA network carrier, has thrown its hat into the Nexus One ring.

Though light on details, Sprint said today that it will shortly announce just when it will start selling the Nexus One, and for how much. Like we said for Verizon, our best guess is somewhere around $180, but now that these two carriers are fighting for the CDMA Nexus One market, competition may help drive the cost down.

Also in Sprint news, the company's first WiMAX-enabled smartphone, the HTC Supersonic, could be announced as early as next week. While the full slew of specs should be available once that formal release is made, a few tantalizing details have leaked out. For one, the phone will have a fold-out stand to prop it up for hands-free viewing. Considering the kind of WiMAX speeds users should receive, some streaming movie-watching sounds like the perfect use for the stand.

Of course, the Supersonic will run the latest Android 2.1 OS, and although black seems to be the smartphone color of the moment, the pre-production model these observations originated from was cased in white; if it worked for the iPod, why not a 4G smartphone? Apparently the software is still early in development, so that summer release may be pushing things a bit, but definitely look for this one before the end of the year.
