Sony's announced a new series of VAIO laptops, this time with visuals on the mind. That is, both the visuals you enjoy on its HD display, and the bold color combinations the computer's exterior comes in.

The VAIO E series screens measure in at 15.5 inches with a 720p resolution. Combined with an optional Blu-ray player, and you've got HD movies on-the-go, all in a package that's between 1 and 1.3 inches thick. If you want to hook it up to a larger screen, Sony's got your back with HDMI-output. You might want to bring along your charger, though, as the E series only gets about two-and-a-half hours of DVD playback, fully charged.

The rest of the hardware looks decently beefy, especially if you're upgrading from a netbook; the default processor is a 2.4Ghz Core i5, with Core i3 options also available. ATI provides the graphics chipset, and 802.11 N WiFi should keep you connected at high-speed.

Of course, what good's a laptop if it's not pretty? Sony offers a variety of color options, including iridescent blue and hibiscus pink, that feature optional contrasting keyboards. The company has the computers available for pre-order now at $800, but it doesn't seem possible to configure the machines just yet. Check back after the seventh, when Sony will hopefully have the site updated.
