UK security company Prevx announced that it's getting tons of reports from customers about a different kind of BSoD—the black screen of death rather than blue, in this case. According to Prevx, the black screen problem occurs because of software updates Microsoft applied to Windows XP, Vista, and 7 computers.

You can fix the problem by playing with the registry, or you could take the easier route and download Prevx's tool. Sure, this announcement is a self-promotional move by Prevx, but we figured you'd want to know that there's a solution out there if you're affected by the bug.

Microsoft hasn't said a word about it yet.
