Google Maps Navigation was such a big announcement it actually caused stock for established GPS manufacturers like Garmin to drop. Unfortunately, this turn-by-turn GPS device killer was only available on new Android 2.0 handsets like the Motorola Droid.

Now many more people will have access to most of the features; Google just announced Maps Navigation for Android 1.6 devices, including the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G. Most of the features are intact. 1.6 users will just do without some high-end voice command features that 2.0 users enjoy.

If you have an Android 1.6 phone, you can download the Google Maps Navigation app from the Android Market for free right now.
