Google spends almost nothing on bandwidth from ISPs, the chief scientist at Arbor Networks says. The company uses up 10% of all bandwidth on the internet — 6% is used by YouTube specifically — and traditional pricing models don't apply. Instead, the company uses something called "dark fiber" and trades bandwidth with providers.
Tipsters have told Engadget that the first Microsoft retail stores will open on October 22nd to coincide with the Windows 7 launch, and that they'll have everything from a Genius Bar-esque help desk to 94-inch displays with attached, playable Xbox 360s.
Google is now using a trike to snap Street View photos of places where the good ol' Street View van can't reach. It's accepting submissions of recommendations as to where it should send that trike next.
