Sony made some major PlayStation brand-related announcements at GamesCon in Germany today. Some of these are whoppers! Here you go:

• The long-fabled PlayStation 3 Slim has finally been confirmed. It will arrive in early September with a 120 GB hard drive for $299. It will consume 34% less power than the large PS3, and it will be 32% smaller! It looks very similar to the one we've seen in manufacturer leaks.
• The PS3 models currently on store shelves will receive price cuts — presumably to the $300 and $400 price points that retailers leaked out earlier today. Some language in a Fye ad makes it seem likely that the 80 GB model will be phased out.
• The PSP-3000 will be available in new colors.
• New, downloadable games called "Minis" will be coming out for the PSP Go, starting with the iPhone hit Fieldrunners. Pricing hasn't been revealed for these games, but they will be capped at 100 MB in size.
• The PSP will be getting a Digital Comic reader with hundreds of comics available for download from publishers like Marvel.
• Europe will finally get a PlayStation Network Video Store, with selections from the BBC, Antena 3, and other channels.
• PS3 firmware 3.0 will add a "What's New" section, animated XMB themes, a status bar that lets you know how many friends are online from anywhere in the interface, more themes and avatars, and new ways to display trophies.
• Eye of Judgment is coming to the PSP, along with EyePet which will come with the camera and cost 50 euros.
• SingStar will integrate with PlayStation Home — virtual karaoke here we come!
