Version 3 of Microsoft's Silverlight rich media platform was launched today. Silverlight is similar to Adobe Flash in that it enables streaming video and interactive elements on websites and in some other environments. It's most notably used by Netflix Watch Instantly, but it's likely to see more widespread adoption soon.

Silverlight 3 adds support for important codecs like MPEG-4, AAC, and H.264. It also enables streaming of high definition video by using your computer's graphics processor to handle the load.
