Netbooks have become extremely popular over the past year or so, but that popularity may be partly by accident. An NPD study has found that the majority of consumers who bought netbooks "thought they would have the same functionality as a notebook."

And of course they don't; netbooks are usually equipped with comparatively very slow Intel Atom processors, which struggle with all but the most basic tasks. The NPD says nearly half of netbook buyers were unsatisfied with the performance they got.
