TiVo looks to be coming out swinging after its recent victory in the long-running DVR patent infringement war it waged against DISH Network and its former parent company EchoStar. Armed with a seemingly airtight legal ownership of digital video recording intellectual property, the company can use that muscle to force potentially infringing pay TV companies to enter into some sort of business arrangement or face litigation, though CEO Tom Rogers stated the legal method is "not our preferred approach."

Time Warner Cable COO Landel Hobbs confirmed his company was in talks with TiVo to provide service, and it's yet unknown how or if the ruling will affect TiVo's existing deals with DirectTV and Comcast. Other providers including Verizon, Cablevision and Charter Communications may be considered as targets by TiVo for new business deals in an attempt to widen its subscriber base and further its bid to become sustainably profitable.
