Everyone's been talking about Twitter's role in the post-election protests in Iran (including the U.S. State Department), but folks with access to the data are saying that while Twitter is being used by U.S. and European media outlets to get around the Ahmadinejad administration's harsh restrictions on foreign journalists, the Iranian citizens themselves are mostly sticking to more traditional methods of communication like Facebook (according to VentureBeat), SMS text messaging, e-mail, and yes, word of mouth (according to BusinessWeek) to organize. Maybe the revolution won't be Twittered after all.
