Unnamed sources within Sony have disclosed the company is working on a device in its Walkman series of portable media players that will run Google's Android open source operating system, as well as a GPS unit running Android. No other details are known and of course this must remain sequestered within the "rumoured, but plausible" internment camp until further notice — however, it does make a heck of a lot of sense. And if Android were to make its way around the CE family tree from smartphone to netbook to PMP and GPS, consumers could benefit from familiar UIs and access to the Android Market, and Google could reap the benefits of being even more ubiquitous than it already is.
