We figured hardware announcements were coming at today's Worldwide Developer's Conference keynote from Apple since the Apple store went down for updates this morning, and we were right! Here's a roundup of all the major revelations today:
- The iPhone 3GS was announced. It's similar to the iPhone 3G, but with a video camera (which also takes 3-megapixel still images), much faster processing and network speeds, and voice control features. This is the iPhone video that's been rumored for the past few weeks.
- The 15-inch MacBook Pro models were refreshed and saw price cuts. Faster processors, better battery life (but nonremovable batteries), SD card slots, and more RAM all around (upgradable to eight gigabytes), with the $2,499 model dropped in favor of a $2,299 one, and a new, much more affordable entry-level 15-inch MacBook Pro at $1,699 sans GeForce 9600M GT discrete graphics card.
- Apple added two 13-inch models to its MacBook Pro lineup. Starting at $1,199, they replace the top-end MacBook. They have all the features of the 15-inch MacBook Pros (including the non-removable batteries), but with no option for discrete graphics.
- The MacBook Air got a price drop and a minor specs refresh.
- iPhone OS 3.0, which includes push notifications, copy-and-paste, and a ton of other features will be freely available to all iPhone owners (regardless of which model they have) on June 17th. It will be available to iPod touch owners that same day for $9.95.
- Apple's newest version of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard, will hit this September, and the upgrade will only cost $29.
- QuickTime X was announced; it enables clip trimming and scrubbing within the interface and has a more image-focused layout.
- Apple Safari 4 has completed beta testing and the release version is now available.
