iRex, makers of the iLiad family of eBook readers, throws its hat into the ring on the matter of developing a color E Ink device, stating a promise to have one ready for market by 2011. Currently the increasingly crowded eReader space still suffers the limitation of monochrome displays, making text their forte but providing a limited experience for images and other media — in stark contrast to the ubiquitous LCD displays most consumers are used to. The race to a color eReader is already on, and whether or not they cross the finish line first, iRex intends to be one of the contenders.
