Amazon launches online viewing of book notes and highlights via AmazonKindle portal
New site offering from Amazon only seems to display notes from books purchased directly from Amazon at this time.

Amazon has launched a new AmazonKindle website that allows Kindle owners to use their computers to access the notes and highlights they've added while reading on the Kindle. Unfortunately, at this point the service only appears to work with books that were purchased via Amazon. I'm not seeing any of the periodicals to which I've subscribed listed and none of the personal documents or readily available free e-books that I've grabbed from elsewhere online.

Each book is listed with a list of highlights and notes from the book, followed by Amazon customer reviews and with a small bit of meta data called "This Book and You" that lists the number of highlights, notes, and your rating of the book. All in all, it's a welcome addition to the Kindle, but we'd like to see the addition of periodicals and support for notes and highlights that were made on personal documents and items that weren't purchased from Amazon. An easily accessible and downloadable backup of the entire My Clippings.txt file where all the various highlights and notes are stored in the documents folder on the Kindle would also be a nice addition to this service.

I'm not a big user of highlights and notes--I may have made one note once? I can't tell, as this website doesn't indicate which of your books have notes without clicking through each one separately. However, I think it bodes well as a beginning for a comprehensive Kindle management tool. The Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.com feels stuffed in a corner.

Hey Erik,
I agree re: this being the beginnings of a Kindle management tool.
One note though, if you look at the far right of when viewing books in list view there is are two icons that appear if you have notes / highlights associated with a book.
