Even with all the caveats about how early and rough the new Jetpack project may be, it holds a lot of promise as the foundation for the future of Firefox extensions. If you're a Firefox user (like us!) you probably know how powerful and incredibly useful browser add-ons can be to customize your web experience and workflow. Jetpack aims to make the whole process easier both for users and developers, by removing the need to restart the browser when installing or enabling/disabling extensions. For developers, Jetpack hopes to solve Firefox versioning incompatibilities that often required ongoing add-on tweaking as the browser is upgraded.

The other good news is that Jetpack features can be coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, technologies web developers are already familiar with. This should open up the ability to write useful browser extensions to a wider range of developers and creative ideas, good for devs and users alike. Overall Jetpack hopes to streamline the entire process of coding, installing and using Firefox extensions, and we really like things that save us time.
