We're going to be covering Amazon's press event live starting at 10:30am ET (although the doors open at 9:30am, so we might start updating early) right here in reverse chronological order (so newer bits will be up top). Rumors from earlier this week, as well as some possibly leaked images, indicate that Amazon will be announcing a new, larger-screened Kindle aimed at students and providing better display of newspapers and textbooks. Native PDF support and reduced subscription price to the New York Times have also been mentioned as possible outcomes from today's event. Check the live coverage section below for our updates, and let us know what you think in the comments.

BEGIN LIVE COVERAGE

11:08am: Pre-order today now from Amazon. And it's over. Going to upload some pictures and then get a live demo.

11:07am: 9.7 inch display with auto-rotation, 3G, 3.3GB of storage, native PDF $489

11:05am: Demoing definitions feature which is the same as old Kindle. Kindle DX introduces new line length settings in addition to typical font sizing.

11:03am: Demoing sections list and other features we already know from Kindle 2 behavior. Page refresh looks to be the same speed as on Kindle 2.

11:01am: Bezos: "I'm going to choose to find this hilarious." Then, once it was fixed "Excellent." Then unfixed again, "You may have to do your demos outside." "Well, I don't think it makes sense to continue." And then it comes back up.

10:58am: Demoing PDFs and sheet music on them. Demo glitch the video is now backwards. Bezos: "That will not be a feature available..."

10:57am: Bezos back up for quick demo. There will be units for hands on testing afterwards. Yeah!

10:53am: New York Times, Boston Globe, and Washington Post are offering lower price to Kindle DX for long term subscription commitment. Marketing trials this summer to readers in areas where home delivery is not available.

10:52am: Bezos is back discussing Newspapers. "Automagically delivered overnight."

10:50am: Barbara Snyder, President of Case Western Reserve University is discussing the Kindle DX.

10:48am: Looks same thickness as Kindle 2. 5 top universities have agreed to use Kindle DX this fall: Arizona State University, Case Western Reserve University, Princeton University, Reed College, and University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.

10:47am: Amazon has reached agreement with Pearson, Cengage Learning, and Wiley textbook publishers.

10:45am: Kindle DX announced display is 2 and a half times as big as Kindle display. PDF document reading built in. No pan, no zoom, no scroll, just read. Just rotating the device auto-rotates the content on the page.

10:44am: But there is one more thing. Most of our documents are 8.5 x 11-inches.

10:42am: Segueing into discussion about personal and work documents. Printing more than ever before now. Called ink cartridges evil. "Somehow I always run out of cyan first."

10:40am: More reasons it is working. Paper like display and 3G wireless are two of the pluses of the Kindle. It gets out of the way and disappears in your hands so that the reader can focus on the reading. Ergonomics of the device make reading enjoyable on the Kindle. Carry the whole library with you up to 1500 books. This is more Kindle commercial stuff we've heard before, leading into something new.

10:39: Kindle book sales for books where there are Kindle editions are 35% of the total book sales. Why is it working? Because Amazon has the "Books people want to read."

10:38: Bezos on the stage talking about Kindle vision. 230,000 books on Kindle 2 launch, now 275,000 books.

10:33am: Running a little late.

10:28am: Music playing. Just switched off of the slowing down WiFi to 3G.

10:04am: And we're in, sitting in the front row next to the Engadget and Gizmodo teams.

10:02am: Overheard in the press room that the leaked shots of the Kindle DX were the real deal. Unconfirmed yet, but more solid than before.

9:46am: And we are in. Old school journalist just laughed at picture taken of the press lounge #kindleevent  http://twitpic.com/4npxz

9:42am: They are letting us in piecemeal #kindleevent just outside now

9:39am: Doors just opened. Moving inside now #kindleevent #kindle

9:20am: In line outside the Amazon Press event http://bit.ly/3OCST http://twitpic.com/4nozb

9:00 am: Placeholder post is live. The press event starts in 30 minutes.

Very cool live blogging.

And the stage lighting makes it look like Bezos dyed himself orange to match Amazon's logo.
