Remember last week when we said Sony might be introducing some kind of motion sensing peripheral for its PlayStation 3 video game console? If this new rumor pans out, Microsoft won't be letting Sony and Nintendo exclusively share all the fancy control method glory.

A tipster told Engadget that Microsoft has a technology (supposedly pictured above) that reads movements of your entire body in a 3D space, and that it responds to audio input as well as video. Better still, it won't detect the people sitting on the couch behind you. The rumor is that Microsoft will announce this at the E3 gaming expo next month. We know the company will be announcing something, because its representatives haven't been afraid to make big promises to shake things up.

After the internet went a little crazy about that rumor, Ars Technica tried to lend credibility to it, noting that an almost identical technology (ZCam) was developed by a company called 3DV and shown off at last year's Consumer Electronics Show. Microsoft acquired 3DV about a month ago. Are you ready to karate chop your way to victory with your own hands instead of with green, blue, yellow, and red buttons?
