Kindle MXEngadget has some slightly blurry pictures of what appears to be a new larger-screened Kindle. Speculation about a new large screen Kindle broke out online yesterday along with news that Amazon would be holding a press conference in New York City on Wednesday, where official announcement of the device is expected. Based on the leaked screenshots, this new Kindle, which Engadget refers to as the Kindle DX, is expected to have a 9.7-inch screen, offer native PDF support, and the New York Times is expected to offer a lower $9.95 per month subscription to owners of the device (the subscription normally runs $13.99 for the regular Kindle and Kindle 2). The Wall Street Journal is also reporting that one of the key targets for this larger format Kindle will in fact be students, as an array of textbooks are expected to be available on the device.

The images could still prove to be Photoshopped images, but the growing number of sources to these rumors indicates that we very well could expect a new larger-screened Kindle tomorrow. If it does come with native PDF support, that will definitely serve as a shot in the direction of Sony, whose Sony Reader has had the advantage of offering native PDF support for several years now. Should that advantage disappear, Amazon's device will have a much better chance of dominating the e-book reader space.
