Does anyone have insight on how location specific investments might result from the swine flu?
Here are some other maps of the swine flu:

I don't think so. This isn't the first time the swine flu has had an outbreak. It happened in 1976 and there were PSA ads all over about it, but it was by no means a plague then and it's not one now. Don't believe the hype. Just go to the doctor if you have flu symptoms rather than going to work, and we'll all be fine.

Of all times this happens when our country is in a recession. How many people do you really think are staying home from work for if they or their children are displaying symptoms? How many can afford that financially right now despite it being the right thing to do. People are afraid of losing their jobs for the slightest thing. Very scary to think about.

A very good swine flu dashboard is at:

I particulary like the fact that you can import both timeline and heatmap as iGoogle gadget.

Everyone is getting scared about the swine flu because the media makes it scary.
The swine flu, is just that, a flu. It incubates in 2-7 days, just like influenza A. Its virulence (the # of people it will affect upon exposure) is 20%, just like influenza A.
There has been one death in the states (a baby). No deaths in Canada (or anywhere else other than Mexico). The other thing, is that the deaths you see from Mexico are very biased. There may be hundreds of thousands of patients affected with the swine flu in Mexico, but they only test the most severely affected patients. If EVERYONE was tested, this may result in the same numbers as Influenza A which kills thousands of Americans every year. People, relax. This is another form of FLU. The reasons for the panic is that its come from an animal (which is not new, lots of viruses cross species), and that it affects middle aged people rather than the young and the elderly. The numbers will end up being the same. Relax.

Thanks so much for the depth and understanding at which you covered the topic. it's a useful piece of information not only for me but for many others. have read a lot on the topic at different blogs and books (download mainly from http://www.picktorrent.com but this piece really gives food for thought
