Xbox 360's E74 error gets Microsoft's RRoD warranty coverage

Admitting that E74 is related to the red ring of death problem that has plagued Xbox 360s since launch, Microsoft decided to provide the same three-year warranty coverage to victims of that error.

Is your Xbox 360 showing an error screen with the cryptic code "E 74" in tandem with a single red light around the power button? If so, we've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that your console is pushing up daisies. The good news is that Microsoft will give you a full refund.

The problem just started showing up after August 2008, but became widely known in just the past few weeks. Microsoft looked into it and determined that it's similar to the infamous "Red Ring of Death" that has harassed Xbox 360 owners for a few years now. The prognosis for your console isn't good, but since the problem is related to the RRoD, Microsoft has extended the special RRoD warranty to include E74 as well.

That means that if the console failed by E74 within 3 years of the day you purchased it, the company will send you a full refund within 4 - 12 weeks. Head over to the Microsoft help page for this for more information.
