FriendFeed, a social networking site that in addition to hosting content of its own aggregates messages and media from other sites and services like Twitter and Flickr, just unveiled a major redesign. It's not live for the majority of users just yet, but you can head to a special beta version of the site to try it out now.

The redesign makes your feed real-time. If your friend posts a comment on your photo, it will pop up instantly with no need for a page refresh. The interface has been streamlined; it all looks a bit simpler and a bit more elegant, with items from different sources now looking more uniform. You can also now apply filters to your feeds, send direct messages to friends, and use keyboard commands to navigate the site.

No word on exactly when this will go live for the mainstream version of the site, but you can bet it'll be pretty soon. We've embedded a video of how a real-time feed behaves below, so check that out!
