Sprint plans to launch WiMAX 4G in 10 cities in 2009, five more in 2010

Good news if you live in Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Charlotte, Honolulu, Portland, or Seattle: Sprint's WiMAX service will be rolling out in all of those cities by the end of this year. Don't live in one of those cities? Well, if you live in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Houston, or Washington, D.C and are patient, you'll be pleased to know that said service is hitting those cities too come 2010.
Up to this point, the service was only available in the great city of Baltimore – an unusual starting place, to be sure, but we're happy for Baltimoreans nonetheless.
WiMAX is a 4G wide-area wireless internet technology used by cell phones and computers alike. In theory, it can be as fast as the best cable modems, but in practice it usually does two or four megabit download speeds. That's still much faster than your typical 3G network, though.
