It's been a while now that you've been able to rent movies or buy TV episodes in HD on iTunesat least, if you've been living in the United States — but Apple has finally made it possible to buy HD movies, as well.

Starting out, your options include Quantum of Solace, Twilight, W., Saw V, and a small handful of others. Apple isn't winning any prizes for breadth of selection just yet, especially not compared to the PlayStation Network's 500 and some titles. But hey: this way you don't need to own a PlayStation 3, so that's got to count for something.

HD purchases run $19.99, or generally five bucks more than their standard definition counterparts. They come bundled with iPhone or iPod-sized lower resolution versions, too. Just be aware that you're going to spend a lot longer downloading these things, since they come in at several gigabytes. With standard definition movies, you could watch them as you downloaded them on most connections, but only the best broadband internet will serve you these HD movies in real time.
