Boot up your Sony PlayStation 3 and head to the video portion of the PlayStation Store and you'll find a whole bunch of new movies and TV shows. Yeah, they add them all the time, but this is one of the biggest batches ever. The reason is that Sony has signed a deal to host content from media supergiant NBC Universal. The rights aren't exclusive (you can get some of the content on the Xbox 360 for example) so console warrior geeks will have to settle down, but it's neat if you make a habit of watching movies and TV on your PS3.
The new content is available in both standard and high definition at the same quasi-steep prices you ought to be familiar with by now: $2.99 to $5.99 for rentals, and either $9.99 or $14.99 for purchases, generally.
NBC Universal is, as you might have guessed, a company that resulted from a merger between the NBC TV network and movie giant Universal Studios. 75 new movies are available right off the bat, along with a bunch of TV shows from NBC (The Office, 30 Rock) and other properties owned by the company, like the Sci-Fi Channel (Battlestar Galactica). That brings the total count to 1,400 films and 4,500 TV episodes. Not bad.
