Nokia, the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, is considering the possibility of making computers too. CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said that his people are "looking very actively" into entering the laptop business because "what we know as a mobile phone and what we know as a PC are in many ways converging."
Nokia is well known for making excellent phones that run on the Symbian operating system. Symbian is worthy of praise more for its solidity than its flair, but the point is that Nokia knows how to make portable devices built around comprehensive software solutions. It seems likely that Nokia will make netbooks rather than full-sized laptops — probably with built-in 3G or 4G mobile internet connectivity, which would allow you surf the web anywhere. Think of it like a smartphone on steroids, if you like.
This is all conjecture at this point, but you know us tech types; we love speculation and rumor!
