Almost a month since we first got word that Apple was wrapping up sales of its existing line of iMacs, presumably in an effort to free up inventory space for a newly-designed refresh to the line, we've gotten some more news on what to expect from the forthcoming computers.

Back in December we ran across rumors that NVIDIA chips would play a big role in the new iMacs, both as standard motherboard components and as the driving force behind the system's video chipset. An NVIDIA GPU would bring the iMac more in line with recent Apple offerings, including laptops utilizing dual NVIDIA GPU setups, all part of an effort by the company to increase graphics performance across its brand. Now we have what looks like confirmation; though we can't say for sure that the photo's genuine, someone's taken a shot of what appears to be Apple promotional material listing NVIDIA graphics as one of the features in the new 20- and 24-inch iMacs.

While we still don't know just when to expect the new machines (sadly, the surreptitious pics of Apple's promo material didn't include any shots of the roll-out schedule), it looks like Apple is stepping up its efforts to unload the old iMacs. Resellers working with educational markets have been authorized to lower prices on those systems. If you're a student and are dead-set on paying for a Mac, this might be one of the better deals you'll come across, so long as you can live with last year's model.
