As 2009's Mobile World Congress begins to wrap up, the GSM Association announced the winners of its 14th Global Mobile Awards. Although there are too many winners to hit them all here, we thought we'd give you some of the highlights from winners of the big categories.

While the T-Mobile G1 made an admirable showing, getting an honorable mention, the award for Best Mobile Handset or Device goes to INQ and its INQ1. We took a look at the phone back at the CES, and were impressed with its heavy integration of social networking functions. It's still looking for a U.S. carrier to pick it up, but maybe winning this award will help attract some attention.

For the Best Mobile Music or Video Service, the GSMA named the BBC and the mobile version of its iPlayer software the winner. While we've heard lots of great things about the whole iPlayer experience, including the PC and Boxee versions of it, our efforts to get familiar with it have been stymied by the BBC's lockout of non-UK users. But considering that it won this award despite its limited appeal, it must be as good as we've heard.

Despite plenty of complaints from users and reviewers about the unnatural feel they experienced when using it, the BlackBerry Storm's touch screen that moves as you depress it has won Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough. Officially called the SurePress Screen, the technology is able to differentiate between simply touching the screen and pressing down on it.

Even though Samsung just premiered a solar-powered phone, the award for Outstanding Environmental Contribution went to Nokia. The company claims that up to 80% of the components in its phones are recyclable, and has taken on the issue of power losses incurred by phone chargers, which has been getting a lot of attention lately.

You can check out the full list, including the top mobile game and top mobile TV service, at the GSMA's website.
