Soon you may not even have to leave the house to get your hands on the latest video games.

Blockbuster has announced plans to add video game rentals to its Total Access rent by mail system. The company is giving the service a test drive now, with plans to roll it out to everyone by the end of 2009.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet for the service, but word on the street is subscribers would be able to score half-priced video game rentals in the store in addition to getting titles delivered by mail to their door.

Adding video game rentals as part of Total Access could give the service an advantage over competing video at home service Netflix. Netflix currently includes flyers for Gamefly, an at home video game rental service to its subscribers, indicating it doesn’t plan on delving into the video game market any time soon. If the price is right, gamers who currently use Netflix and Gamefly may choose to consolidate their services and instead switch to using Total Access exclusively.

I'm on the verge of canceling my $34.99 per month Blockbuster Total Access, it's the most pricey movie rental program on the market, and frankly, I haven't got the time to watch a single movie from the last couple months. But the company announcement today of a pilot program might changed my mind; coming next quarter, they will add video game rentals to the Total access package for the expenses of $5 more.
