If you're on Facebook, chances are you've learned some interesting (or perhaps not so interesting) facts about your friends this month through the chainletter-esque note "25 Random Things About Me."

It looks like in addition to giving us tons of random facts about our friends this past month, it also helped Facebook surpass MySpace as the top social networking site in the U.S.

If you're one of the three people on Facebook who hasn't been tagged in the note here's the deal:

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

What results is an endless circle of tagging and note writing, to a point that everyone feels pressured into doing it (that peer pressure will get your every time). The "Notes" section of Facebook was used by a whopping 20 million people in January, compared to just 4 million in October of last year.

While all of the Facebook's growth for the month probably isn't due to the note, it certainly helped the site out in the page view department, and renewed a general interest in the "Notes" tab on the site.

What about you? Did you post a "25 Random Things About Me" note in January?

I did post my 25 things... I couldn't help myself! Also loved reading other people's things, especially people I hadn't seen in a while. It was like Cliffs Notes.
