The rollout of the Xbox 360's New Xbox Experience went rather smoothly for most. It added functionality, made things move much quicker, and even gave the previously utilitarian dashboard a new coat of paint. Unfortunately, some of you with HDMI connections didn't fare so well.

A small percentage of consoles utilizing HDMI experienced curious audio glitches after their system upgrades. Up until now the only "solution" was a hard drive swapping routine which really didn't fix the problem so much as find a way around it.

Thankfully Microsoft is coming to the rescue starting February 3rd at 2:00 AM Pacific time. At that time, Microsoft will begin rolling out a mandatory dashboard update which will crush the bug for good. If you turn on your system after this time and aren't prompted for an immediate update, don't fret; the update can take some time to move across all the Xbox Live servers and your system is merely waiting in line.

No official word has been given as to why the problem occurred in the first place, but let's just be happy we can continue our gaming in crisp, uninterrupted gaming clarity.

What's the point of the update if it only does this? If there's a way around it let those few unfortunates have to deal with it.

The update takes all of maybe 30 seconds... a small burden to bear. I say suck it up, maybe you might have use for it in the future.

You're an idiot. You're just pissed off because they didn't give you new features.

STFU.

If it's a problem for SOME, then WHY NOT FIX IT?

Wow. What a self-centered piece of shit.

This is so dumb. 1. It takes forever to download. (I know this because I'm downloading right now.)
2. Why should this be a mandatory update? I don't have any problems!!! 3. When Xbox Live is made free i will never complain about stuff like this ever again.

I'm not too bothered about this update, only took a couple of minutes. If it helps those with problems, then all the better for the update. But I do wish they would sort out the party problem, where people get kicked randomly. No, it's not the connection, a lot of friends have the same problem, from different areas of the world too. Also, I'm sick of not being able to connect with friends and not being told why I can't. I can't join Private Chat or a Party or join their game, I have to find another host just to talk to them, unless I want to keep sending voice messages, which is just stupid and takes too long.

my connection is fine, but i keep getting the message "cant download the update" etc. xbox live was working fine before. other people are having this issue as well as others concerning the update. i would just update manually with a disk, but no image seems to be available, plus i am a bit waery as i have heard that some got thr RROD when the update was applied. i also hate that the updates are mandatory. i understand the logic, but it's pretty weak. MS didn't get thier hardware or software working properly from day 1 and now every other fix comes with a new problem...

after downloading the new update my uncle got the RROD, but fortunately all he had to do was restart his system. Also as for me the update was a pain to download and install but im not gunna complain too much if it fixes the issues which i could have if i was running on my HDMI cable. I always say 'its better to have too much then too little cause you never know just how much you will need now or in the future.' i think the same can be said when one is using an analog connection then switching to a digital connection. Although i think they should have added a little more to the update then just the HDMI audio fix just so we dont have to do this for every issue they resolve.

I downloaded this last night, I have hdmi connection and have never had any problems, now every 10 minutes my screen goes fuzzy and all I HAVE is sound! I have to shut down and re-start! Is anyone else getting this problem?

With regards to being kicked out of parties and being unable to connect. Make sure your NAT is 'Open' and not strict or moderate. Open the ports on your router to open NAT.

I did the update, launched fallout3, and the colors were all messed up (like all blue and green). Then I rebooted, and my tv says it does recognize the HDMI signal! then I tried the component cables, and I can hear sound, but I get no picture. I read you can reset the display with the yellow button and right trigger when booting up from the controller, but no dice. Is there any other way to roll back the update?

I have this EXACT same problem. And even if they fix it - how am I supposed to apply the update without being able to see anything on the screen? I use component video, ran the update just yesterday and POOF. No video, but I can hear audio.

Got this update and the only thing it gave me was the 1 Ring of Death. Xbox is now gubbed and needs to be sent away to get fixed. Thank you Microsoft.

This is so stupid. I got the update and my console still broke. My games would freeze and the screen would go all fuzzy. Now I have red rings. The warranty is gone, I already had my 360 fixed once after red rings about a year ago. I'm just upset that microsoft won't take care of the people who bought first generation consoles with the most problems.

I posted before to say after the hdmi audio update I suddenly had problems, when I had none before. Well, the problem was the image going after about 5-10 min of play, that was the first day of the update, the next day, I got the full works! switched on 3 red flashing quadrants and error
E-73! now my XBOX has to go back for repair!!! If you haven't already DO NOT install this latest update, stay off-line for the foreseable future!

eXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT SOME(quite a few ) users got slammed with the R.R.O.D after installation of this update.... I do not understand why these updates are rolled out so fast without proper testing. I do not mind the time personally, I do however hate the thought of my new X box getting nuked by the mandatory game of roulette.

@ Annonymous that had the 'Cant download the update'. I have the same problem. Everythin is working fine other then that. All the tests pass until it gets to the XBOX Live one where it needs the mandatory update. Then nothing happens.
