Apple launched the iLife '09 software suite, well, pretty much just now, and we wouldn't have predicted this outcome, but pet owners have already found something to get psyched about. You know how on Facebook or Flickr you can tag people in your photos, so those photos will appear in any pages listing pics of that person? One of the lauded features of iPhoto '09 (which is part of the iLife suite) is its facial recognition feature; it can automatically recognize people's faces and tag the photos accordingly. You should only have to identify someone manually a few times before the software knows who they are.

Pretty neat, yeah? Well, it took about 24 hours for someone to realize that it also recognizes cats! There's an article on how to get it to do so consistently over at MacLife. As with human faces, it's not perfect. Sometimes it will be wrong, but word is that it's surprisingly consistent. MacLife promises to try dogs soon. So there you go, animal lovers. Technology works for you, too.
