Alongside an iDVD Update and an iLife Media Browser Update, Apple has released the NVIDIA Graphics Update 2009 version 1.0, which reportedly corrects the problem that some users were reporting when using Apple's Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter to attach a 30-inch display to their DisplayPort-savvy MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air. Reading some of the reviews of the adapter on the Apple Store will give you a pretty good idea of the type of fuzziness users have been experiencing. If you're affected by this issue, run the update and let us know in the comments below if it fixed your problems. If you're not affected by this particular issue and you run Software Update and see the update sitting there, you should go ahead and install it anyway, as it's supposed to improve HD video playback as well.
UPDATE: According to commenter zec0 below: "sadly nothing is fixed with this update."

sadly nothing is fixed with this update. when changing the graphics card to "high performance" an external apple 30" monitor display is not even recognised. when changing back to "better battery life" the display is recognized sometimes but only renders highly distorted images. tested with two current macbook pros 15" 2.8ghz and two different mini display port to dual link dvi adapters on two different 30" apple cinema displays. apple should recall this adapters!

...the issue is on a new Macbook unibody 2.4 Ghz.

It is even worst now!
Before the update, when I plugged my 22" Samsung external display with mini display port to VGA adapter I had intermittent "black flashes", around 1 every 10 minutes, now with the update the screen is black all the time and normal screen appears half a second every 30 seconds...
Am I alone with this issue?

Your absolutely not alone, i have experienced the same problem with the blackout. After i update my macbook, the external monitor no longer usable. I'm experiencing the same symptoms pre and post update. It's really frustrating but i talked to an apple product expert and he told me that its a known issue and their working on a fix.

I have exactly the same situation as you two!

Yep, I have black flashes every few minutes, often two very close together. I use new unibody 2.4 MBP with Mini Display Port - VGA adaptor, out to Toshiba HDTV. VERY frustrating when watching movies, as screen goes black for a few seconds at a time. The new MBP is extremely irritating - no FW400, no regular DVI, no packaged adaptors and now this!!! Sort it out, Apple. You are frittering away a lot of goodwill.

i have the same problem. just before the problem started, I noticed another phenomena. Some colours on my display turned to a solid red. (original colour was very dark). I had lots of bright red pixels all over the screen where the previous colour was. Then the screen started intermitedy going blank. it is now blank all the time. I have a MacBook 2.4GHz

SOLVED (kinda)
I went to an Apple Store today. They confirmed this is a known problem. They tried my MacBook and mini displayport to DVI adapter with an in-store monitor - same problem.
They tried one of their adapters, and the screen worked. They gave me a new, sealed adapter and everything work back home too.
I'm just guessing -- maybe the drivers/hardware in the new MacBook is causing the electronics inside the adapter to fail over time. My adapter was working fine for weeks (of everyday use) then over the period of one day, the signal degraded until it stopped working completely.

I also had the intermittent "black flashes" issue with my August 2008 "unibody" Macbook connected to an external display. BUT, the March 2009 DisplayPort->VGA adapter firmware update fixed them!
So no more screen-blanking-out problems for me.
