HP Mini 1100 series; does it exist or not?

Email hearsay from HP claims that the Mini 1100 series doesn't exist, they're all models in the 1000 series, and none have ExpressCards.

Sometimes specs on unreleased products pan out, sometimes they don't. In HP's case, an entire line of netbooks that we reported on earlier today may not exist at all.

The HP Mini 1100 series as we heard about it is notable for the addition of ExpressCard ports, letting you expand the netbooks' functionality with add-on cards for things like 3G wireless access. Sounds good, except now we're hearing that HP claims the whole series is a mistake.

An email from a supposed company representative identified the 1100 line models as actually belonging to the 1000 series and rejecting the idea that they would have ExpressCard ports. He said the only netbooks available with the connections are Mini 2400s. If this information is correct, all the ExpressCard-having models we saw were the result of data improperly showing up on the website.

We're still waiting for an official response from the company. For now, the product pages on HP's site that started this misunderstanding are still up.
