Panasonic has announced it will support the new SDXC format in future, yet-to-be-determined devices.
SDXC cards are able to store up to 2TB of data on a single card, with read/write speeds of 300MB/s, considerably higher than storage options currently available on the market. Panasonic plans to release a 64GB SDXC card first with larger capacity cards to follow.
While pricing and availability for the cards hasn't been announced yet, the cards have the opportunity to offer some stiff competition for the SSD market. One 2TB card could offer you much more storage than the typical computer hard drive, as well as provide a substantial amount of storage for your camcorder, cell phone, or digital camera (up to 480 hours of HD recording or 136,000 fine-grade photos on a single 2TB card).
Sony is also getting in on the extended high capacity game, recently announcing a SanDisk branded extended high-capacity Memory Stick PRO card which will also support up to 2TB of data with a read/write rate of 60MB/s.
