According to Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu, Dell may be working on its own smartphone that may arrive as early as this February. With the success of the iPhone, the recent rise of Google's Android mobile platform, and the surprising news at CES that Palm was entering the mobile OS arena with their new Web OS, the arrival of a Dell-backed cellphone could lend force to Google Android should Dell go that route or possibly help draw more attention back to older platforms like Windows Mobile or Nokia's Symbian OS. Dell has a long-standing relationship with Microsoft, so a new innovative Dell smartphone running off of Windows Mobile could revitalize the platform. We'll have to wait and see what parts, if any, of these rumors end up panning out, but should a Dell smartphone arrive, at the least, it will offer you more choices in cellphones. At the most, it could help offer you more choices in feature rich smartphone platforms running on cutting-edge devices.
